The state of Maine is offering computers to some, if not all, 7th and 8th grade students. The result: improved test scores in writing. Not that test scores are all that matters, but I am sure students are getting more engaged with their writing. It's no secret that using a computer makes writing easier to accomplish and rework, but owning a computer for the first time might excite some students, which could lead to them using these machines more regularly to write. This habit could continue throughout their lives -- at least Maine is trying this. I hope others get on board as well. Check out the article.
