Gaining Readers

Since I have been blogging now for about a month, and yes, I am proud that the blog is still going, I want to work harder at getting people to read the blog. So my question is, how do you gain readers? Sometimes I notice people visit the blog and move on immediately, and I can't blame them, for I do this too when I cruise around blogger, but how do I get people to purposefully visit the blog? As I am pretty new to this, I am open to any and all suggestions.
